Become a Sea Guardian

Want to keep our oceans free from oil spills, fishing nets and pollution? Become a Sea Guardian today - it's that simple.

Our oceans are the cradle of life on Earth and Australia's oceans are some of the largest and most biologically rich in the world. But our seas are in a state of global crisis, and they need us like never before.

Coral Sea Dreaming 2

March 15, 2009
by Toni Houston

Coral Sea Dreaming 2 is the story of coral; the world’s greatest natural architect, and the ancient ancestor of humankind itself. Coral is the immortal sea God of our oceans, responsible for the building of massive limestone citadels which house the most exotic and specialized creatures on earth.

Eight years in the making, Coral Sea Dreaming 2 brings together the world-class cinematography of Emmy Award Winner, David Hannan, with an original musical score by Australian composer Tania Rose. Shot on State-of-the-Art High Definition technology, it chronicles over 2000 dives on the last three great coral reef ecosystems on earth: the Great Barrier Reef, Ningaloo Reef, and Papua New Guinea.

Over 84 extraordinary minutes, Coral Sea Dreaming 2 enters the very heart of life – and death – on a coral reef. Amongst the thousands of marine creatures represented, there are courting manta rays, oceanic sharks, turtles, cuttlefish, alien sea slugs, and massive fish schools reminiscent of a bygone age.

David Hannan is renowned not only for his filmmaking, but more importantly the conservation that is activated by his films. This is the driving force behind his work.

About this Book

March 3, 2009

Sea Sick - The Global Ocean in Crisis"Hot off the press", Sea Sick is the first book to examine the current state of the world’s oceans — the great unexamined ecological crisis of the planet — and the fact that we are altering everything about them; temperature, salinity, acidity, ice cover, volume, circulation, and, of course, the life within them.

“A riveting book of revelations about Earth’s largest and most important habitat.”
-- Tim Flannery, author of The Weathermakers

All life - whether on land or in the sea - depends on the oceans for two things:

  • Oxygen. Most of Earth’s oxygen is produced by phytoplankton in the sea. These humble, one-celled organisms, rather than the spectacular rain forests, are the true lungs of the planet.
  • Climate control. Our climate is regulated by the ocean’s currents, winds, and water-cycle activity.

“Each chapter in the book blends lucid, factual explanation of complex subjects with engaging chronicles of the author’s travels to far-flung parts of the globe.”
-- Quill & Quire
